UPCOMING WEBINARS
FPRF Webinar: Obstructions and Early Suppression Fast Response Sprinklers

Wednesday, February 10, 12:30 p.m. ET
Garner A. Palenske and Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc.

Early suppression fast-response (ESFR) sprinklers are often installed in warehouses to avoid installation of in-rack sprinklers. However, since the discharge pattern of ESFR sprinklers is different from that of standard spray sprinklers, obstructions near the sprinklers can greatly affect the distribution of water. This webinar will present the results of the six-year Fire Protection Research Foundation project, Obstructions and Early Suppression Fast-Response Sprinklers, that investigated the impact of obstructions on ESFR sprinklers in a warehouse setting to inform NFPA 13, Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems. In addition, the newly created ESFR Sprinkler Obstruction Analysis Tool will be demonstrated with relevant examples. The webinar will also include a detailed review of the proposed technical changes that are anticipated to appear in the 2022 edition of NFPA 13.

Combustible Gas Dispersion and Detector location Analysis in Residential Occupancies

Wednesday, March 10, 12:30 p.m. ET
Scott G. Davis, Ph.D., P.E., GexCon US, Stephen Olenick, P.E. Combustion Science & Engineering, Inc.

This webinar will present the research on combustible gas dispersion and detector location analysis in residential occupancies by GexCon US for the Fire Protection Research Foundation. The research included a literature review of the existing guidance for combustible gas detector location and installation in residential occupancies, and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations to clarify and strengthen the technical basis for combustible gas detector installation criteria in residential occupancies. CFD simulations were conducted to quantitatively evaluate gas detector performance as a function of placement in residential occupancies.

Fire Safety Challenges of ‘Green’ Buildings and Attributes

Wednesday, April 14, 12:30 p.m. ET

This webinar will present highlights from a comprehensive information review of how the landscape of fire safety challenges of ‘green’ attributes of buildings has developed since 2012. It is based on a global information search into: fire events involving ‘green’ and/or sustainable building materials, systems and features; emerging ‘green’ building materials, systems and features; and research, regulatory changes, engineering approaches, risk mitigation strategies, and firefighting tactics associated with fire challenges with ‘green’ and/or sustainable building materials, systems and features.
